Jamie Pulos-Fry’s Spirit-Filled Guide to Volunteering at Church Exhibited at the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2023

Many Christians young and old aspire to serve God, usually through their local church community. However, whether it’s discerning exactly what they need to do, who to minister to, or even knowing their limits, many would-be volunteers remain unsure.

Fortunately, Christian author and long-time community volunteer Jamie Pulos-Fry has plenty of tips that she shares in her book, “Servants Heart: From the Voice of a Volunteer.”

The 2023 L.A. Times Festival of Books contained a lot of in-depth books on matters of philosophy, faith, and theology. Yet, there were also some books that did well enough to provide simple advice for age-old questions about a particular faith.

One Christian author, Jamie Pulos-Fry, did just that by publishing a book that aims to help churchgoers take the first step to being charitable volunteers. Her book, “Servants Heart: From the Voice of a Volunteer,” shares the wisdom she has gained from the many years she has volunteered at Lancaster Baptist Church. The book was exhibited at the literary festival with help from ReadersMagnet, a self-publishing and book marketing company.

In “Servants Heart: From the Voice of a Volunteer,” she covers all the basics. This includes not only Christian reasons for volunteer work but also additional benefits that could help one’s career further down the line. She also outlines the Christian idea of faithfulness and how it should be the main guiding principle when volunteering. This is then followed by chapters on learning unfamiliar skills, being of service to others as well as the differences between serving younger people and older members of a local community.

Pulos-Fry has personally been a member of several volunteer programs that taught her the skills that enabled her to be of even greater service to her church community. Today, she sings as a member of their choir and is actively involved in ministering to widows. For her, it seemed clear that God called her to write this book to help others who feel the same calling.
