Blondella James Brown Shares Her Touching Story in Her Memoir “Go and Tell My Child to Let Me Go”

Blondella James Brown’s memoir “Go and Tell My Child to Let Me Go” was last exhibited by self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the 2023 London Book Fair. The book trade fair occurred last April 18-20, 2023, at Olympia London, London, UK.

“Go and Tell My Child to Let Me Go” is a heartfelt memoir about the author’s parental challenges in having a child incarcerated. Her son was brought up in a Christian home and attended Christian schools. It was a shock to her that he went astray. As a parent, Blondella James Brown feels the heavy burden of grief, shame, and guilt. Families who experience the same kind of emotional and spiritual challenges are also imprisoned in their sadness and loneliness.

Coping with the incarceration of a loved one can be overwhelming. The imprisonment of a family member feels like going through a loss or grieving process. The loss of the person in the family’s life is real, even though they can still see the person by visiting. Tens and thousands of children are incarcerated in youth prisons every day, and even more young people are being sent to adult prisons and jails. Parents cannot imagine their child being locked up alone in a small empty room for days, weeks, or even months. The justice system can sometimes cause more harm than good to young people who are locked up under harsh conditions.

Through writing about her experiences and expressing her agony, Blondella James Brown slowly recovers emotionally and spiritually. The author hopes to comfort and uplift families, parents, and friends who have incarcerated loved ones.

Dr. Blondella James Brown is married to Carl D. Brown, pastor of the Fountain of Life Church in Houston. She has two sons and three granddaughters. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from San Diego State University, a master’s of divinity from Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta, and a doctor of ministry degree from Houston Graduate School of Theology. She taught at C.H. Mason Bible College and Institute. Dr. Brown served as the secretary to the Certification Board of the Church of God in Christ, First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. A retired school teacher, she is a certified volunteer chaplain for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
