“Ask the Animals” by Renee Copeland and co-author Roxanne Jacobs was displayed at the 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, held at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, last April 22-23, 2023.

The book display was made possible by the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet. The company is committed to helping authors share their stories and boost their brand at events, such as the L.A. Times Festival of Books. It is the largest book festival in the country, attracting an annual crowd of approximately 150,000 festival-goers.

“Ask the Animals” is a Christian book that shares stories from the Bible as told from the perspectives of the animals that are present in the background. With a fresher look into biblical stories, readers will learn new things from the scenes untold by biblical authors. This provides an understanding of how things came up to be as the story progresses.

The book was based on the saying, ““Ask the animals”, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you” from the Book of Job. Copeland and Jacobs made use of the passage to make a compelling book that would compel and immerse young readers with the tales from The Book.

Each story ends with a lesson that the readers can take away. Like all the parables, the animal stories are made to open the readers’ minds with values and mending mistakes. The stories also end with Bible references, so readers will have an idea of which part of the Bible the animal story is related to.

Author’s Biography

Renee and Roxanne are twins, born and raised in southern California. After junior college, their lives went in different directions.

Renee Copeland worked as a bookkeeper/secretary, in spare time reading, sewing, casual writing, painting, bird watching, and some church work. As a USO hostess, she met her first husband. They moved to Ketchikan, Alaska, and then to Staten Island, NY, where she and a co-worker began tracing their family trees. In Seward, Alaska, she worked for a jeweler, picked berries & made jelly, and was active in church. Back to California and single again, she added square dancing, community theater stage manager, and Al-anon meetings.

After relocating to Washington State she met Steve Copeland; now married 30 years, they are happily settled in Puyallup (western Washington). She continued writing, family tree research & joined Daughters of the American Revolution, and prayer ministry at church. Renee loves being a stepmom and honorary ‘grandma.’

Roxanne Jacobs loves to travel. In her early twenties, she drove with a friend to the World’s Fair in Seattle, and traveled around the world with the University of the Seven Seas, balancing work, classes, and excursions to many ports of call. Over 40 years ago, while she worked at an Evangelism organization in New Jersey, she met and married Bill Jacobs, a Navy nurse. Their two delightful sons, (both Eagle Scouts) live in Idaho.

Roxanne is an active church member wherever they are, including a Bible-study teacher, bell choir, treasurer, etc. Her hobbies include reading, quilting, puzzles, and especially writing. Roxanne and Bill have both been to all 50 U.S.A. states, plus many foreign countries as well. They loved living in Bavarian Germany for almost a decade, before retiring to Puyallup.

At last, the twins live about five minutes apart and often spend time together.
