The new self-help book, “Right Side Up & Forward,” by Annette Rawlings, inspires readers with a powerful story of resilience, determination, and artistic passion.

Rawlings’ story is an extraordinary one, born into a deeply dysfunctional family, abandoned by her mother at birth, and raised by herself. Rawlings endured a series of traumatic events, including being kidnapped at the age of twelve. Despite all these adversities, Rawlings emerged as a victor, not a victim.

In her first book, “Upside Down & Backwards,” Rawlings shared her story of how her world was upside down and backward. But in her latest release, “Right Side Up & Forward,” she shares her journey of moving forward and being in the right direction. Rawlings’ story is a beacon of hope for anyone who has ever faced adversity.

Rawlings’ experiences also include her time spent in the jungles of Central America and at the Plaza Hotel in New York City, which changed how she thinks about art and how she does it. Her passion for life and art is reflected in her use of color and her extensive academic studies. Rawlings’ story is not just one of survival but also of finding one’s true passion and following it with determination.

“Right Side Up & Forward” is a must-read for anyone looking for inspiration and encouragement to move forward in life. Rawlings’ journey is a powerful reminder that with resilience, determination, and the right tools, anyone can overcome life’s challenges and emerge victorious.

Born at the end of WWII into a very dysfunctional southern family, Annette had been abandoned at birth and left in the care of her grandparents; her mother reclaimed her at age three. A neglected childhood led to her kidnapping at age 16, and she was forced into an arranged marriage. Homeless at 17, she is a self-made person. She was 19 years old and working three full-time jobs while attending two schools: The University of Miami and the New School of Fine Arts.

Rawlings expressed a pioneer spirit of fortitude and resilience. On her mother’s side, Williams was told that her great-grandfather, Green Williams, fought in the Civil War even though he was said to have some Cherokee blood. Annette is a DAR or Daughter of the American Revolution. Her grandmother told her she was related to Pulitzer Prize winner Marjorie Kennan Rawlings, who wrote “The Yearling” on her father’s side.

There was only one Rawlings family that came over. Perhaps this helps account for her creativity, ability to survive, and fortitude to continue. As a product of the 1960s, artist Annette Rawlings was associated with many of the time’s actors, rock stars, writers, and innovators.
