Randy Hudson is a Vietnam Era vet who has taken up authoring as an exciting exercise in personal expression. His crime suspense novel, “Abort,” is a provocative yet gripping story about the differing views of justice held by different groups in the world today. The book was even exhibited at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023.

The characters are dense and intriguing. They all seem to have me look at the parts of myself that can relate to their actions, their beliefs and their own sufferings. They also have me wonder about the meaning of "community" and how our chosen group of peers forms our own belief systems. I wondered, "How can I relate to such opposite viewpoints and actions?" This is what inspired me most about Hudson’s tale. Yes, the story is provocative. What is better than getting engrossed in a story

Many novels that were exhibited at the 2023 L.A. Times Festival of Books were not only entertaining. Plenty of them also tackled challenging themes and messages about modern society’s views on justice, violence, and the right to life.

Among these is Randy Hudson, an author who published a crime suspense novel titled “Abort: Terminate Prematurely.”

“Abort” tells the story of John and Mary, a couple of government-sanctioned assassins who lead other pairs as part of a commission. Their main job is to receive cryptic notifications from their superiors about select criminal individuals and ‘abort’ them. These hired guns use advanced technology and a secret network to clean out bad actors, both at home and abroad.

The novel’s premise and choice of kill words are based on a very cynical concept. Since society has already seen itself fit to sanction abortion, then state-sponsored hitmen like John are simply performing late-term abortions on individuals who have thrived too long on the wrong side of the law.

For the most part, the novel presents a slew of criminal examples that had been marked for the pair and their commission to take out. But as the story progresses, doubts begin to creep up about the justice the pair are asked to serve.

At the 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, Hudson managed to secure an exhibit spot for this book with the help of ReadersMagnet, a self-publishing and book marketing company. He hopes that the many readers who gave it a look come out of reading it with a better sense of what influences their sense of right and wrong.
