Alex Goldblum’s “The Raj of Dhrangadhra: A Photo Book” was exhibited at the 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books held at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, last April 22-23, 2023.

The self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet made the book display of “The Raj of Dhrangadhra” possible, holding true to its commitment to sharing authors’ stories with the world. The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books is perfect for the book display as it is the largest book fair attended by approximately 150,000 people every year.

“The Raj of Dhrangadhra” is a photo book that showcases the Indian region Jhalavad and also features the aspects of the life of the current Jhallesvar. It provides insights into the arts and culture of the ancient desert kingdom.

The desert kingdom, Jhalavad, was ruled by Jhala Kings called Jhallesvars since 1082 AD. In 1807, the rulers were called “His Highness” after British rule was established.

Goldblum features the aspects of the life of His Highness, Dr. Jayasinhji Jhala, in his photo book. The current Jhallesvar is an Emeritus Professor of Anthropology at Temple University. As a former student and friend, Goldblum had the chance to showcase Jhallesvar’s life through photographs. This book is also a compilation of the author’s experience with Jhalavad and the current Jhallesvar Maharaja of the Halvad-Dhrangadrhra Kingdom.

Dhrangadhra, the former capital of the Kingdom of Halvad-Dhrangadhra, is where the ancient desert kingdom is located. The photographer captured the rich history, culture, architecture, and life of the region ruled by the Jhallesvar.
