For the second straight year, Eastman Kodak Company has been recognized for its innovative design capabilities by an international panel of design experts. The new KODAK EASYSHARE V1003 digital camera earned a highly-regarded 2007 red dot Award for Product Design.

The red dot design award ranks among the largest and most prestigious design competitions in the world, and the coveted red dot award – often considered a “quality seal” for the look and feel of a product – is regarded throughout Europe as an international seal of quality for sophisticated and innovative design.

An international jury of design experts performs the product assessment. They examine and test the products and assess them according to criteria such as degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, durability, ecological compatibility and clarity of function. This year, companies from 43 countries with a total of 2,548 products were evaluated.

“The red dot award for product design is one of the most significant awards in Europe, and only the best receive this recognition,” said Kodak’s Paul W. Porter, Director, Corporate Design and Usability. “In an extremely crowded market segment, the EASYSHARE V1003 design creates instant impact at retail as well as in users’ hands.”

Announced in January at the Consumer Electronics Show, the EASYSHARE V1003 is a stylish, 10-megapixel compact digital camera. The camera shares its sleek, rounded-edge design with the eight-megapixel EASYSHARE V803 camera. Both models feature digital image stabilization, a 2.5-inch LCD screen, and a high ISO 1600 mode for shooting in low-light conditions. Finished in nine shimmering colors, the EASYSHARE V1003 and V803 will be available in April.

Last year, three KODAK EASYSHARE Cameras – the V570, the P880, and EASYSHARE-ONE – earned red dot awards. Other recipients of red dot recognition have included Apple’s iPod Nano digital media players, the Audi A6 sedan, and the Bose Wave music system.

The award ceremony will take place on June 25 in the Aalto Theatre in Essen, Germany. Following the ceremony, the EASYSHARE V1003 camera will be presented with the other award-winning products in a special exhibition. From June 26 to July 23, the camera will be exhibited in the red dot design museum, the largest exhibition of contemporary design worldwide, for one year. The museum is also located in Essen, Germany.
