Cheryl L. Combs’ Cute Children’s Story About Hiking with Her Sweet Dog Olivia Exhibited at the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2023

For some children’s book authors, the best stories are taken from real-life experiences. Cheryl L. Combs is certainly one of them, but she doesn’t take all the credit. Half of it at least go to her precious dog Olivia. She was such a funny and cute hiking companion that Combs just had to share her antics in her first children’s book. The book even made it to an exhibit at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023.

Colorful and cute children’s books filled the exhibits at the 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. Many of these books featured stories inspired by real events in the lives of their authors.

Yet, for author Cheryl L. Combs, she believes that at least half of the work is all thanks to her sweet dog Olivia. It’s why she decided to start a series of children’s books that tell all about Olivia’s cute and silly antics straight from her four-legged point of view.

The title of her first book is “Olivia’s Adventures: Olivia Goes Hiking.” With the help of ReadersMagnet, a self-publishing and book marketing company, she got her book an exhibit spot at the L.A. Times Festival of Books.

“Olivia Goes Hiking” tells the story about when Combs, her husband, and Olivia decided to explore the trails at the Shenandoah National Park. Young readers are introduced to Olivia for the first time, such as what kind of dog she is, the things she loves to do, and all the silly antics she gets up to.

During the hike, she also makes some astonishing discoveries, such as the fact that she can swim and also meet a turtle for the first time.

Combs and her family are all very fond of traveling, having been to all 50 states and then to multiple countries. With the publication of her first book, she looks forward to telling more stories about the adventures she and Olivia had experienced during their trips.

Cheryl Combs grew up in Texas. She graduated from Texas A&M with a BBA in Accounting. She is self employed as a virtual assistant and bookkeeper.

Cheryl and her husband, Steve, and son, John, live in Virginia with their dog, Olivia. They love domestic and international travel, volunteering, and hiking. Cheryl has currently visited all 50 states and multiple countries. She has always wanted to write children’s’ books and Olivia’s antics have inspired her to write this series.
