Mystery-Fan-Turned-Author Donna J. Thompson Has Her Second Book “Lost Causes” Displayed at the L.A. Times Festival of Books

Mystery novels and thrillers have been a staple in literature long before Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created Sherlock Holmes. It is not surprising that many exhibits at the 2023 L.A. Times Festival of Books featured the latest publications in the genre. From noir crime thrillers to Victorian-era intrigues and more, the festival was a great avenue for both fans and new authors in the genre.

A reader-turned-writer, Thompson has a deep appreciation for the art of storytelling and loves the complex characters they created. She herself has used her own skills of observing others to inform her writing. Like many of the local residents, Karl is initially skeptical about Casey’s claims, but Trudy’s ghastly death and Lakeview’s mismatched testimony shake even his previous convictions. Together, will this unlikely pair unravel Lakeview’s sordid web and find the truth?
Thompson certainly employs all the well-known narrative tricks and plot twists that have had readers follow the story to the end.
