Hubert Thomas Shares Seventh-Day Adventist Take On Conflict Resolution via Book Exhibit at the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2023

The 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books exhibited a lot of books that shared different religious perspectives on subjects such as war, ethics, and interpersonal relationships.

However, one representative of the Seventh-day Adventist has taken it upon himself to write about a subject his denomination is more often known for avoiding: conflict.

In his book, “Are You Ready for The Fight?,” Thomas presents reflections on the nature of conflict in today’s world. For him, there is only really one good fight, and that is the fight not against fellow man but against “spiritual hosts of wickedness.”

Thomas has been serving the Seventh-day Adventists in a number of capacities for many years, particularly in Panama and the Cayman Islands. From his experience, he believes that Christians have a duty to serve as good examples against these spiritual hosts.

According to him, the many conflicts affecting people today are all the work of “the deceiver.” It is how this evil one has decided to strike against God by going after His children, causing them to tear each other down, be it in petty arguments or outright war. It is through conflict that the deceiver shatters the interpersonal relationships among Christians.

“Are You Ready for The Fight?” then lays out a succinct action plan for Christians to serve as good examples against the spirit of discord. He even uses an analogy with boxing despite not wishing to promote the sport. He writes this all just in the hope that more believers will fight against being puppets of the deceiver.

It is why Hubert E. Thomas even went so far as to have “Are You Ready for The Fight?” exhibited at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023 (with support from ReadersMagnet, a book marketing and self-publishing company). The book is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Hubert E. Thomas was born in Colon, Republic of Panama. His elementary studies was at Escuela República de Bolivia, Colon, Panama. His high school was at Colegio Abel Bravo, Colon, Panama. He received a AA ministerial degree at Colegio Vocacional de América Central, Alajuela, Costa Rica. His bachelor’s degree was at West Indies College, Mandeville, Jamaica (graduated as class president). His master’s degree was from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan. After graduation, he served as a pastor of a six-church bilingual district in the Panama conference. He was a pastor and treasurer in Cayman Islands, Mission of Seventh-day Adventists. He was assigned Accounts receivable at the Andrews Memorial Hospital in Jamaica. He served as a pastor of the Spanish churches and internal auditor for North Caribbean Conference (St. Croix). He was an internal auditor for Inter-American Division of Seventh-Day Adventists (FL) and at the writing of this book, an internal Auditor for South Atlantic Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. He was a Special Education school bus driver for Montgomery (MD) and Gwinnett Counties (GA).
