Melissa Rea’s “Pool of Tears” Was Displayed at the 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books

Melissa Rea’s “Pool of Tears: Nights of Alice #2” was exhibited by self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. The book festival took place at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, last April 22-23, 2023.

“Pool of Tears” is the second book of Melissa Rea’s “Nights of Alice” series. It follows Alice Hightower, a CEO of a medical device company that is facing industrial espionage that results in devastating losses. Clothes appear in her closet. Each set of clothing will take her to fantastic places in time. The clothes will always fit her. With the clothes on, she opens a portal behind her door that takes her into a fantasy world and meet the men of her fantasies.

In the real world, Alice faces deep trouble with her company. Her medical device company suffers financial trouble, the man who says he loves her disappears, and she loses her CEO position. At night, she uses the clothes in the closet to bring her to the fantasy world to help her cope with the devastating truths in the real world.

She meets different men in the fantasy world that parallel men in the real world. Would she choose her vice-president of sales over an African king or a 12th-century prince fresh from battle? Would she prefer her favorite project engineer, or would she go with the astronaut from the International Space Station or a lusty kilt-wearing whiskey maker?

Will Alice Hightower become like Lewis Carroll’s Alice, who swims in her “pool of tears,” or will she face her dilemma as a different version of Alice while developing new projects to restore her reputation and regain her CEO position?

Author’s Biography

As a little girl, Melissa Rea fell asleep whispering stories to herself in the dark. In elementary school, she got in trouble for embellishing when the truth seemed too boring. She learned to control her imagination as she grew up and her stories became daydreams. Pursuing a sensible career, Melissa filled her spare time with the wondrous worlds of Bram Stoker, Mary Shelly, Robert Heinlein, Philippa Gregory, Stephen King, Dean Coontz, Jackie Collins, Jennifer Weiner, Sarah Dunant and any and all authors who caught her fancy. Still, the stories in her head persisted, now colored by the delicious words of others. One day, she could no longer keep them in her and she began to write novels. Conjuring Casanova was published in 2016 and was a Recommended Indie Book by Kirkus Review. Nights of Alice Book I, Rabbithole was published in 2021 by Melange Publishing. Maestro was published by Melange in August of 2022 and won Best in region from ReaderViews. Nights of Alice Book II, “Pool of Tears” was published in June of 2022. She lives in St. Louis where she has a solo dental practice and lives with her husband and rescue cats.
