Resolution Games Serves Up First Look at Racket Club Gameplay in Meta Quest Gaming Showcase

an all-new sport built from the ground up with VR players in mind

Resolution Games has laced up its tennis shoes and stepped onto the court with the debut of an all-new trailer for Racket Club as part of today’s Meta Quest Gaming Showcase. Crafted by the studio responsible for award-winning multiplayer VR games including Demeo, Blaston, and Acron! Attack of the Squirrels, Racket Club delivers an all-new sport built from the ground up with VR players in mind. Racket Club will immerse players in an authentic, realistic experience built around the natural movements of sport when it launches later this year — all while engaging in the fun and accessibility found in the world’s very best pick-up sports.

“Recreational sports play a big role in bringing people together,” said Mathieu Castelli, Chief Creative Officer at Resolution Games. “There have been plenty of times where I’ve picked up my racket, visited a club, and made new friends both on and off the court. With Racket Club, we can deliver the same experience in VR — and with gameplay and physics that are virtually indistinguishable from playing racket sports in real life.”

Racket Club takes inspiration from many of the world’s most popular racket games including Tennis, Padel, Pickleball, and Squash. Following the game’s announcement in late 2022, today’s trailer marks the first real look at how Racket Club is played.

When players step onto the court, they’ll find the play area for their matches surrounded by four clear walls — each providing a surface for the ball to bounce off to keep it in play and provide a new dimension for strategic gameplay. The more times players can hit the ball back and forth during each rally, the higher the points value for the player that takes it. This “points rally” mechanic introduces a unique blend of risk and reward that’s not typically found in racket sports. Players will need to read their opponent’s behavior to determine just the right time to break their reluctant cooperation on any given rally and win the points for themselves.

The court size in Racket Club has been designed with living rooms in mind, giving players the ability to fully immerse themselves in racket sport VR play while keeping their footwork within a safe boundary. This allows for natural movement in all its forms, from traversing the court to taking big swings at just the right angles.

“From day one, our vision for Racket Club was focused on one thing: getting the feeling of racket sports absolutely right,” added Castelli. “Perhaps ironically, the best way to do that was not to recreate an existing racket sport in VR, but to build something entirely new. We stripped the idea of racket sports down to its fundamentals and rebuilt it to fit naturally in a virtual space, focused on delivering fun and rewarding exceptional play. Our hope is that the end result is a sport you’d be just as comfortable playing in a real physical club as you would in a headset.”

At launch, Racket Club will offer singles (1v1) and doubles (2v2) multiplayer, as well as a single-player career mode. Racket Club can be wishlisted starting today on the Meta Quest Store and Steam. To learn more about Racket Club, visit racket.club or follow the game on Twitter and Facebook.
