“These verses were composed with pleasure in mind.” Robb Hasencamp

Robb Hasencamp’s “Modern American Haiku” was exhibited by self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. The book festival took place at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, last April 22-23, 2023.

“Modern American Haiku” is an anthology of poems that captures the audience with its expressions about nature. The collection of modern American haiku is both elusive and enchanting. It invites the readers and environs them with mysteries of nature and poignant flashes of deeper everyday life.

Modern haiku borrows from traditional Japanese haiku in which its main focus and theme is nature and the mysteries and wonders surrounding it. Traditional Japanese haiku follows the 5/7/5 rule, which doesn’t follow rhyme and rhythm. It only immerses the reader into a world of nature in those limited number of words. The modern American haiku also uses the same rule and takes the readers into deep thinking about nature, knowledge, emotions, and the mysteries of life.

As what a haiku can do, modern American haiku captivates readers with the images that the words can offer them. To make the imagery even stronger, the book has images of nature that the readers can readily take themselves into.

The book is perfect for those people who want to get lost in nature with just a flip of a book. Each poem brings a reader into a specific type of nature. With this, one can enjoy having a journey between pages.

“Modern American Haiku” by Robb Hasencamp is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
