Charlotte, North Carolina – WEBWIRE

Oxit, the engineering software services provider pioneering customized IoT solutions in partnership with the Helium Foundation, the nonprofit pioneering decentralized wireless for all, today announced the launch of Oxtech Module, enabling the development of IoT devices that are compatible with both the Helium Network and Amazon Sidewalk. The first-of-its-kind module combines the world’s largest LoRaWAN network with a nationwide LoRa network to bring unprecedented global connectivity to IoT solutions providers and their customers worldwide.

IoT adoption is accelerating worldwide. According to Statista, the total number of IoT connected devices is expected to almost triple from 9.7 billion in 2020 to more than 29 billion by 2030. Global, reliable, ubiquitous connectivity will be required to meet the demand for coverage. The Oxtech Module offers a significant step towards achieving that goal, enabling current and future devices to benefit from Amazon’s shared nationwide Sidewalk network and the Helium Network’s global people-powered LoRaWAN network.

“Our mission at the Helium Foundation has always been to democratize access to connectivity for all - but we can’t do it alone,” said Abhay Kumar, CEO of the Helium Foundation. “The Oxtech Module brings together two incredibly powerful IoT networks to enable greater access to connectivity - while simultaneously driving further usage and innovation to the entire Helium Ecosystem.”

Launched in 2019 with the mission to deliver decentralized, open-source, accessible, and secure global connectivity for IoT devices, the Helium Network has grown to become the world’s largest LoRaWAN network, with nearly one million hotspots deployed by everyday people in over 77,000 cities worldwide. Its vast global network serves a variety of IoT use cases, from water and air pollution monitoring to smart cities, smart agriculture, asset tracking, and more, in addition to providing coverage for four major roaming partners.

“At Oxit, we saw an incredible opportunity to bring these two major networks together to unlock greater connectivity that will benefit the entire IoT industry,” said Josh Cox, CEO at Oxit. “Our Oxtech Module helps ensure that IoT devices are connected whether they’re inside your home, out on the street, or halfway across the world.”

The news comes just a month after Amazon opened its sidewalk network to the public, which leverages devices like Amazon Echos and Ring Security cameras to provide nationwide coverage. According to the company’s coverage map, the opt-in network reaches 90% of the U.S. population.

“After several years of development and different technology options, we concluded using Oxit’s Sidewalk module was not only the best robust solution to achieve our goal” said Larry Fox, CEO of ZFLO Technologies, “but Oxit’s understanding of Amazon Sidewalk, and the ability to also use LoRaWAN networks like Helium, allows us to reach a great number of customers that we might not have been able to service prior”
