At the 2023 L.A. Times Festival of Books, booklovers browsed plenty of today’s newest publications about recovery from terminal illnesses, claims of miracle healing, and motivational memoirs inspired by tragic medical conditions.

But for author and traumatic brain injury (TBI) survivor Trish Buscemi, it seemed that what readers needed more was a little more grounding in the medical science to go along with the motivational talk!

That is why she published “Crash!: Hope for Traumatic Brain Injury Survivors”. With the help of ReadersMagnet, a self-publishing and book marketing company, Buscemi got her book an exhibit spot at the festival.

It was in March 2013 when Buscemi suffered a motorcycle accident that led to her TBI. Yet rather than start with the usual narrative of struggle and pain or peculiar visions of what she saw before regaining consciousness, she simply admits to essentially waking up from the ordeal one day.

She knew very well something had happened to her mind and that TBI had affected her memory and cognition. Yet despite this, she did her best to remain hopeful and positive when it was time to undergo the rehabilitation program.

The process was undoubtedly helpful for her, yet what fascinated her the most was the incredible knowledge of the human brain that was being taught to her. She was very curious and very eager to learn about all the facts, which eventually gave birth to the book she wrote.

Within the pages of “Crash!” is not just her memoir as a recovering survivor but helpful, fact-based resources for brain healing and even information for caregivers.

“Crash!: Hope for Traumatic Brain Injury Survivors” is available on Amazon. As for Trish Buscemi, she actively shares more resources and tips on her website.
