Mark A. Handy’s “Freedom Lost” was exhibited at the 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, which took place on April 22-23, 2023, at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. The book’s display was made possible by the self-publishing and book marketing company, ReadersMagnet.

Lawrence Lording won the U.S. Presidency in a three-party run. After becoming the president, he suspended the Constitution and eliminated the Congress. With that, the United States of America became a country under a dictatorship. The dictatorship made him think he could be king and rule over America. With his iron fist and callous disregard for human life, many people opposed his beliefs and died from their rebellious activities.

A group of Southern Arizonans took a stand against Lawrence at Cochise Stronghold in the Dragoon mountains. This rebellion made him retaliate with a tactical nuclear weapon, killing everyone in sight. The sole survivor, Mason William Wallace, embarked on a journey to avenge his friends and spark a rebellion nationwide. He headed to Chicago as he heard that there was an underground movement there that could help with his rebellion.

The book talks about the power of politics and how people play a huge role in fighting for freedom. Readers will also learn about how choosing the right leader can secure the future of the country and the people.

Author’s Biography

Mark A. Handy, author of “Freedom Lost,” was raised in a military family. His father was career Army so Mark travelled quite a bit, from Georgia to Chicago and much of western Europe. His family finally settled in Sierra Vista, Az, in southeastern Arizona. Mark spends his time between his Tucson home and his family in Sierra Vista. From his own service in the Army, he gained an appreciation for the liberties so often taken for granted by Americans today. To try and awaken a valuation of these inalienable rights in his readers, he wrote “Freedom Lost” with no political bias. “How would the American people react?” was his premise. His sequel, currently underway, continues to seek the answer.
