Joseph Descans signed copies of his book “Hosea: The Prophet Who Married a Prostitute” at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023 on April 22, 2023. The book signing event was organized by the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA.

“Hosea: The Prophet Who Married a Prostitute” is a modern reading of Hosea. It is one of the most controversial biblical stories. The book has 29 chapters and is written in the third-person perspective. Each chapter of the book focuses on either Hosea or Candace.

In Joseph Descans’ book, a wealthy contemporary Hosea marries a prostitute named Candace. With God’s direction, the couple starts a family. Will this union succeed? All is going well until Candace falls to temptation and pursues freedom in presumably greener pastures. However, that cannot stop the relentless love of Hosea. God’s love and grace are patient and gentle, allowing Candace to learn from her mistakes. Hosea’s beautiful story teaches readers necessary obedience, forgiveness, and love lessons.

Joseph Descans is a speaker, contractor, freelance writer, editor, and writing coach. He earned a BA in Literature with a minor in Spanish from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2000. Joseph uses a fictional romance story to paint a picture of the relationship between God and his children.

Joseph Descans was born on June 24, 1964, to Gene and Verna Descans in Indianapolis Indiana. His parents divorced and at age seven and Joseph Moved to San Diego Ca with his mother and younger sister, Debbie. Joseph graduated from Torrey Pines High School in 1982, and from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2000 with a BA in literature. He is a single dad with four children, two cats, and three chickens, and still lives in San Diego. He is a freelance writer, editor and writing coach, contractor, certified arborist, Cat-stuck-in-a-tree rescuer, and former professional surfer. His favorite pastimes are surfing, snowboarding, and fishing with his four children Lily, Giuseppe, Abraham, Hezekiah, and friends.
