“Embark on a fascinating journey, from an oppressive regime on an aging Earth to the distant frontier on the edges of space.”

At the 2023 L.A. Times Festival of Books, dozens of new science-fiction publications filled the exhibits and wowed readers with their visions of emerging technologies, the possibilities of interplanetary travel, and more. It was a great chance for Dave Kijowski to share his space-faring adventure “Trappist.”

“Trappist” is set somewhere at a certain point in the future. Mankind had only just recently escaped the confines of earthbound civilization. The ruling powers of Earth had established ever-increasing footholds in other parts of the solar system.

Doc Murphy is one of the scientific pioneers who helped make all of this possible. And yet, his contribution is riddled with tragedy. It came with the loss of his protégé Dr. Shamir, who was killed in a horrific space explosion. Doc’s reputation had also garnered the attention of Earth’s hostile government, who had abducted him and held his family as hostages for reasons still unclear.

The story’s main focus is on Doc’s sudden and urgent mission to track a mysterious signal beacon originating from beyond the edges of colonized space territories. With him are a ragtag bunch comprised of a recently bailed smuggler, a humorless old man, and a lone Space Agency operative.

The journey is undoubtedly perilous and pushes Doc to explore both the edges of human ingenuity and the galaxy. Readers at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books had the wonderful chance to read about his journey when “Trappist” was displayed at the exhibit of ReadersMagnet, a self-publishing and book marketing company.

“Trappist” by Dave Kijowski is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Outskirts Press.
