May marks the 43^rd annual Building Safety Month. It Starts with You is this year’s theme with weekly initiatives designed to raise awareness about what it takes to create safe and sustainable buildings on a personal, local, and global level.

Key components of building safety include ensuring that the proper construction compliance assessments are conducted and that safety inspections continue to take place even once a building is operational. In New York City, under the 2008 NYC building code, all construction projects approved by the Department of Buildings (DOB) require that a special inspections agency perform all identification of responsibilities and provide a certificate of completion for inspections/tests performed as indicated on the TR1/TR8: Technical Report Statement of Responsibility.
