Jim Reuther Shares Moving Alphabetic Anecdotes in Book Signing Event at L.A. Times Festival of Books 2023

After Jim Reuther’s beloved wife passed away, he discovered a pre-written letter that inspired him to write 25 short stories celebrating life. Identifying by his Mother’s endearing baby nickname, Gunky, he then published them along with his wife’s note as a book titled “Gunky’s Adventures: In the Land of Must Believe.” He attended the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023 to share his book and sign copies, hoping his tales would inspire kindness, peace, love, and belief.

“In this book is a life-hearted collection of anecdotes that share the most tender and inspirational moments in a life wonderfully lived.”

Jim Reuther has many accomplishments. He has a BA in Chemistry and a PhD in Fuel Science. He has done research and development on WMDs, even travelling to Afghanistan as a subject matter expert. In the recent years of retirement, he has decided to become an author and poet.

It all began after his beloved wife passed away finding her remarkable, heartwarming letter. Back then, he was only writing as a pastime. The letter challenged him to continue his art and prompted him to accept authorship as a tribute to her wish.

The result of his new dedication is 25 short stories, one for each letter of the alphabet. Narrated using his nickname, the stories were compiled in a book titled “Gunky’s Adventures: In the Land of Must Believe,” along with the original “Afterlife-Life Love Letter and Wish” his late wife wrote.

Reuther’s stories cover a wide range of topics and themes. Some are funny anecdotes, while others are very emotional reflections on Reuther’s past experiences. A few allude to his family’s interaction with major events in American history! There is a bit of about everything from the colorful events of his time growing up, meeting the love of his life, the day his children were born and what role he played during pivotal points at the turn of the 21st century. Included before each story is a poem he composed to enrich the adventure with his inner thoughts, loves, and wonderings.

Gunky’s Adventures was last exhibited at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, which was held on April 22-23, 2023, at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA. The author signed copies of his book at a session organized by ReadersMagnet on April 23, 2023. The book display and signing session were made possible by the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet.

Jim Reuther hopes that the stories he shares in “Gunky’s Adventures: In the Land of Must Believe” will inspire others to engage in the wonderful appreciation for life. Get a copy on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
