About The Author

Many years ago, Author: Vernon Farris’ parents, Howard and Kitty, gave him his first set of crayons and coloring books. At first it was fun, but soon he got bored with staying within the lines. As a result, he began to create his own images to decorate with color. Years later, his art progressed and he graduated from California State University at Long Beach with a degree in drawing and painting.

Throughout college, he held many types of jobs. Shortly after graduation, fate smiled upon him and he was offered a job working for a beachwear company. His artwork consisted of illustrating palm trees, surfers on waves, and many tropical flowers. He spent several years in Southern California creating this type of art.

Feeling the need for a change, he packed up his life and moved to the Bay Area. He eagerly awaited experiencing the diversity of San Francisco, and began by taking up canvas painting.

One night, while waiting to be seated in a pizza restaurant with a friend, he fixated on a large, ornate piece of furniture that caught his eye. It was an antique dresser turned around and masquerading as a hostess stand. He wondered about its origin, age, and the stories it could tell. It became his obsession.

Although he had never thought about writing a children’s story before, he realized that he could. As a six-foot, 230-pound kid who loved Harry Potter, he began his journey to write “A Wizard Comes To Falling Leaf Falls.” His novel takes place in 1939 in a world where children had no electronic devices and were encouraged to play outside and use their imaginations.
