San Diego, CA – WEBWIRE

Potato Richardson is a huge inspiration to riders and the sport of endurance ride.

Potato Richardson, winner of the 2015 Tevis Cup, shares in his book, “Ride Like Potato: Learn to Enjoy Trail Riding More Than Ever!” his experience in trail riding.

The author started riding horses at a very young age. At age 10, he and his close friends had their own horses. Richardson started helping around doing chores at a local riding stable. In exchange for helping in the stables, the boys on the ranch were allowed to ride the horses.

In 1972, Richardson rented an apartment in a place called Ranch Apartments, owned by ten-time Tevis Buckle recipient and Haggin Cup winner Paige Harper. Paige helped Richardson buy his first endurance horse. The horse was an Appaloosa named Grazeagle Bandit. Paige introduced Richardson to Wendell Robie, founder of the Western States Trails Foundation. Before long, Richardson became a member of the board of directors of the foundation. In 1973, Richardson had his first endurance ride with Grazeagle Bandit. During his riding career, Richardson bought an Arabian mare named Eden’s Cailana to ride in his second year riding Tevis. This experience marked a turning point for him, and he has since focused his attention on Arabian horses, including the Shagya Arabian horses from Hungary.

Richardson has experienced riding in the Tevis Cup 31 times. He finished 22 times, landed in the top ten nine times, and won the Tevis Cup three times. He has helped many riders from all over the world ride and compete. Richardson states in his book that he aims to use the profits from the sale of the book to build a life-size bronze statue of Wendell Robie, the man who started the Tevis Cup ride in 1955.

Author Bio
Potato Richardson was born on Feb 26th, 1943 in Troy, Michigan not far from the B-M Ranch. There he got a taste of riding horses and never lost it. In 1972 he was exposed to the sport of long-distance horse riding starting with his first ride. Tevis 100 Mile One Day Race through the Sierra Nevada Mountains from Lake Tahoe to Auburn, California. That event has spurred his horse breeding and riding worldwide ever since. His compassion for the Arab horse and the Arab/Shagya Hungarian bloodline have instigated his desire and energy to levels that few have achieved in the Endurance riding sport. He has competed in many countries and continues to produce top horses that perform very well in the sport.
