The Children’s Book “The Dragon and Rat Tale” by Donnabelle Pineda Continues to Inspire Young Hearts

Donnabelle Pineda ’s “The Dragon and Rat Tale” was exhibited by self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023. This year’s edition of the largest book festival in the country, was held at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, US, last April 22-23, 2023.

“The Dragon and Rat Tale” follows two creatures with different but somehow similar situations. An unkind dragon refused to help a peasant. He didn’t know that the peasant can do spells. The dragon got cursed to live under the power of the spell. Soon, he crossed paths with a rat. This rat was also cursed to take this form. The rat was Princess Arabella, who was cursed until she finds her true love so she could transform back into her original self. With both having a goal to reach and curses to break, will their bond eventually return their lives back to normal?

Donnabelle Pineda uses a metaphorical story to convey the value of kindness and love to the younger audience. Using the dragon as a symbol of cruelty and fierceness and the rat for ugliness, parents can always get their kids to relate to the children’s story. Young readers will enjoy the illustrated fable that will surely practice their imagination.

Author’s Biography

Donnabelle Pineda, author of “The Dragon and Rat Tale,” was born in the Philippines during the year of the rat. She grew up in San Francisco, where she started writing nursery rhymes for her English class “Show and Tell” during high school. She had always wanted to publish her show-and-tell assignments, except that she had lost the entire suitcase of her work. Now that she is a grandmother of four, she imagines herself reading to her grandchildren a bedtime story. Her version of a fairy tale is not just a bedtime story; it is narrated in her voice.
