#ICYMI: Epic April 2023 Experiences #withAmex

American Express took another trip around the world in April, offering exceptional experiences for Card Members in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Tokyo, Paris, and Munich.

From supporting small business owners tin celebration of the 10th anniversary of Independent Bookstore Day in Los Angeles and New York, to connecting small business owners with Chef Mario Carbone during an intimate dinner in Miami to showing up for the global LGBTQA+ community at Tokyo Rainbow Pride, this month highlights the many communities that make up American Express.

California: The Amex Experience at Coachella

American Express returned to Indio, California, for the 2023 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Card Members and their friends were able to visit the “Amex Experience” which helped transport festivalgoers back to Y2K with retro 2000s-inspired photo moments, customizable Coachella tote bags, and exclusive BLACKPINK merch.

American Express also teamed up with fashion resale platform Depop to introduce the first Amex x Depop Festival Edit, curated by rapper Flo Milli. From April through October, Amex and Depop will continue to feature these limited time “edits” curated by well-known talent who all share a passion for vintage shopping and circular fashion.

Germany: BMW Open by American Express 2023

Amex sponsored Munich’s BMW Open by American Express tennis event as presenting partner – the first of four German tournaments on the season’s ATP Tour calendar – for the second year in a row. As part of the experience, Platinum Card® and Centurion® Members received access to the Amex Sky Lounge for a great view of the tournament and the chance to meet former professional tennis player Tommy Haas – or play pickleball with him at the Amex Racquet Club pop-up – all while Professional tennis player Mischa Zverev served up training sessions for Card Members’ kids. Additionally, there was exclusive merchandise at the Amex Pavilion, along with breathwork sessions led by Sascha Zeilinger that offered a body-mind practice using conscious connected breathing techniques for enhanced wellbeing and relaxation, and Card Members could also enjoy specially prepared dishes by Chef Ali Guengoermues.

New York: Sweeney Todd on Broadway

Platinum Card® and Centurion® Members enjoyed an exclusive performance of the exciting revival of Sweeney Todd, marking the production’s official return to Broadway in over a decade. Following the performance, the show’s lead actors, Josh Groban (Sweeney Todd) and Annaleigh Ashford (Mrs. Lovett) returned to the stage for a moderated Q&A session. Card Members were able to hear from Groban and Ashford as they discussed their experience working on the musical.

Miami: Chef Mario Carbone Joins Amex for Intimate Industry Networking Experience

American Express and Resy teamed up with Major Food Group Co-Founder and Chef Mario Carbone to host an intimate and educational dinner at Dirty French Steakhouse among select Business Platinum Card Members. As part of the experience, Chef Mario Carbone served up an exclusive Q&A session with American Express Vice President Rebecca Hendrickson to talk about his growth as a business owner and restauranteur, including his advice for successfully scaling a business. This event was part of an ongoing series that invites top U.S. restaurant owners to join Amex and Resy for the opportunity to network and share their experiences with Business Platinum Card Members.

New York and Los Angeles: Shop Small Bookstores

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Independent Bookstore Day, American Express teamed up with the American Booksellers Association (ABA) and six independent bookstores in the New York and Los Angeles areas to encourage Card Members to support local bookstores in vibrant communities. American Express hosted events at Manhattan’s Book Club Bar, Brooklyn’s Greenlight Bookstore The Bronx’s The Lit. Bar, Pasadena’s Octavia’s Bookshelf, Downtown Los Angeles’ The Last Bookstore, and Culver City’s The Ripped Bodice where Card Members could connect with the community, explore new reads, and had the opportunity to receive a $25 gift card to be used towards their next book of choice at that store.

Japan: Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2023

American Express showed up to the Tokyo Rainbow Pride Festival at Yoyogi Park, a weekend for the LGBTQ+ community to celebrate and connect with one another. As one of the festival’s silver sponsors, Amex joined the community as part of the parade experience that celebrated this year’s theme of "Press on till Japan changes” created to encourage people to raise their voices for a future where everyone can live equitably and happily.

France: Exclusive Card Member Concert by Rock Band Franz Ferdinand

American Express Card Members in France received access to a private concert by Scottish rock band, Franz Ferdinand, at La Salle Pleyel theater near les Champs Elysées in Paris where they enjoyed top hits including “Take Me Out” and “This Fire”.

France: Ramsès et l’Or des Pharaons

As one of the most anticipated international exhibitions to arrive to France in 2023, American Express joins as a sponsor of the “Ramses the Great & the Gold of the Pharaohs” exhibit. The multisensory exhibition features more than 180 original artifacts from Egypt that explore the life and accomplishments of Ramses II, including his sarcophagus which has never been seen outside of Egypt. To celebrate this month’s opening at La Villette in Paris, our Air France KLM – American Express Cobranded Members participated in exclusive events including a private guided tour and a virtual reality experience to discover the temple of Abu Simbel and the tomb of Ramses II’s wife, Nefertari.
