Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) and is the leading international awards organization honoring excellence on the Internet.

The Beauty of Blackness chronicles the checkered past, present and future of Black Beauty and calls attention to the historical and current dearth of fashion and beauty products made for and by People of Color. Through its 15% pledge, Sephora has shown support to the Black beauty community by dedicating 15% of its shelf space to beauty brands owned and created by people of Color, The Beauty of Blackness was created for any person that has an interest in the fashion industry but specifically targets Black women. For some, it showcases history that they are familiar with while including new details that they have never seen before and for others, this introduces them to a cosmetic brand made specifically for them that has historical weight and includes modern sensibilities for women of color. This film is a love letter to the Black community, and it shows that Black people have been in spaces and places where they weren’t allowed or supposed to be and how they will again enter a space where they aren’t thought of or valued. The film shows that a compelling story told well, even with brand attachment can resonate with an audience and connect us all.
