Tietoevry benchmarking DEI efforts through SHE Index

High index scores in the SHE Index 2023 in all Nordic countries


SHE Index is an independent cross-industry ranking measuring gender balance in organizations, fostering transparency and motivating action. The index encourages stakeholders to focus on diversity and inclusion in leadership and workforce, equal compensation and work life balance. Tietoevry has participated in the SHE Index since 2021 in Norway, Sweden and Finland, and scores high in the SHE Index 2023 in all Nordic countries.

The annual SHE Index results were announced at the SHE Conference in Oslo on April 19th. The SHE Conference is a social sustainability conference focusing on growth and innovation in business and society, with Tietoevry as one of the main partners.

The work to advance Diversity – Equality – Inclusion (DEI) demands continuous attention, and for example increasing the share of women in senior management positions is a key development area for the company. The results on the SHE Index regarding this vary from country to country. From 2022 onwards Tietoevry has been divided into five independent businesses with management across borders, which has resulted in a decrease of women in senior management positions in Norway in 2022 – whilst at the same time an increase in Sweden. Overall, the share of women in senior management positions in the company remained at 23% in 2022, equal to the year before. The total share of female employees increased with 2% to 31% from 2021 to 2022, and the share of females amongst new recruits increased with 5%.

“We have measured the progress on gender balance annually - ensuring accountability to the targets across the organization. Now we have a real-time dashboard for this purpose and going forward we will follow up on the development across the company on a quarterly basis. Targets for increasing the share of women in new recruits is shared with all our businesses and functions – and is also tied to management incentive plans”, says Kia Haring.

Ambitions and actions

Tietoevry’s ambition is to have, at any given time, the proportion of female leaders equal to or greater than the overall share of female employees. The company is working with initiatives to expand female recruitment, ensure final candidates of both genders when recruiting internally and externally, and have successors from both genders for all positions in all manager level succession plans.

Highlighting female role models and collaborations with known networks are important actions to promote more girls and women to choose technology as a career path. Based on a survey conducted in 2022 which found that young girls don´t choose technology because they assume it is boring and complicated, Tietoevry has launched the guidebook “Being an IT girl”. The guidebook provides practical insights into the industry and its variety of job roles and possible career paths. The aim is to lower the barrier for selecting tech/ICT as a field of study and profession and is targeted towards girls aged 15-18 and their parents.
