Dean McFalls’ Reflective Reinvention of a Christmas Classic Gets an Exhibit at the 2023 London Book Fair

The London Book Fair 2023 is set to start in the middle of British springtime, but it will also be exhibiting books about many other seasons of the year, such as Christmas. That’s certainly the goal of Dean McFalls, who is set to exhibit the newest edition of his long-time writing project “Delivered on Christmas.”

The core idea of the book is the classic holiday poem “The Night Before Christmas,” which also starts the entire book. Further along, however, McFalls recreates his own versions of these timeless rhymes that touch upon other issues, such as his faith and spiritual reflections on more recent events.

The first edition of this book was published back in 2017. But even then, McFalls has had a number of experiences that inspired the first set of poems he put in the book. He has gone on pilgrimages to all corners of the world, such as the Global North, South, East, and West. Along the way, he also used these travels to further the cause of citizen diplomacy and express his deep concern over the hostilities that have risen over the years.

Many of these are poetically well-illustrated in his Christmas collection as well as some prayerful verses dedicated to children. The first edition had already earned praise from the Pacific Book Review. Since then, McFalls has added a few more entries inspired by the aftermath of COVID-19 and has plans to publish future poems that share his thoughts on the war in Ukraine.

“Delivered on Christmas” by Dean McFalls is currently being displayed at the ReadersMagnet exhibit at stand 6A90 at the London Book Fair, until April 20, 2023, at Olympia London, London, UK. The book will also be displayed at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books on April 22-23, 2023, at the University of Southern California, and ReadersMagnet Book Confab in San Francisco on April 28-30, 2023. Dean McFalls’ journey began in Seattle, where he and four siblings were raised in the Congregational Church UCC. During graduate studies in theology, Dean joined the Catholic Church. He has served over the years in elementary and high school education, in the missions, in international projects for peace and reconciliation, as a writer, and (for 20 years) as a Roman Catholic priest. He now teaches in Stockton, California, where his son Gabriel will be ten by Christmas 2023.
