Odon Bacque’s “A Walk in the Park: A Vietnam Comedy” is a Vietnam War memoir that follows the author during his time in the Army.
Bacque was a law student at LSU when, because of his grades, was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. His poor eyesight led him to think he would not be assigned to a combat position, but because of his desire to be an officer, he was assigned to attend Infantry Officer Candidate School.
Because of an inadvertent mistake, he subsequently was assigned, after graduation, to attend Airborne and Special Forces courses, and finally assigned to Vietnam. It was there that he discovered the vital role that Fate would play in his life as he was assigned to Special Forces where he was given a job he didn’t know existed, working for an LSU graduate he had never met, and subsequently having a tour of duty that allowed him to return home relatively untouched by war.
His experience was really “A Walk in the Park.”

Author’s Biography
Odon L. Bacque Jr. attended Infantry Officer Candidate School and served with the 5th Special Forces Group in Vietnam before becoming the state Co-Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Committee in Louisiana. The author has been involved in his community since returning from the war, culminating in his election to the Louisiana House of Representatives.
