Briana Pass tells a tale of two sisters in My Aunt Ruthy: “Uncle Mason Was a Monster.” The story follows Trisha and Tia Bell after losing their parents in a car crash. The sisters were then sent to live with their Aunt Ruthy and Uncle Mason.

Their nightmares started when their Uncle Mason would spend his “me time” in their room during the night. Their aunt also used them to get checks from the government for taking them home. She did not care that Mason would touch them. To get out of the sexual abuse, the sisters planned their way out by killing their uncle. They were successful in getting rid of their uncle. They let their aunt live as she was also abused by her very husband. Little did they know that their aunt was now after them to take revenge for the death of her husband.

“My Aunt Ruthy” raises awareness that familial abuse happens. The author aims to raise awareness that abuse could happen in homes. Also, there are young women and children trapped in the shadows of sexual and domestic abuse.

The book takes readers into a parallel universe where abuse is committed by members of extended families. This perspective will open the eyes to the safety of young women and kids, especially in dysfunctional homes.
