Systematic Guide to Positive Self-Image by Jerald Forster and Jennifer Rose Will Be Displayed at the 2023 L.A. Times’ Festival of Books

The combination of optimism, mindfulness, and positive psychology is very common among the self-help publications that will be exhibited at the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2023, on April 22-23, 2023, at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA. However, only a handful of them takes the extra effort of presenting them with the technical detail of mental health professionals. Jerald Forster and Jennifer Rose have co-authored one such book detailing effective steps toward a more pos

“I got this book as a gift over quarantine/stay at home and am glad I was willing to get it started. The instructions and website component are clear and provide a path to creating healthy habits and cultivating resilience. I started it with a group for accountability and have found that helpful.” - Camila Gomez Wills

Every year, the L.A. Times Festival of Books will have dozens of exhibitors showcasing the newest self-help publications. A great many often present the personal experiences of authors as they transformed themselves with a combination of positive self-affirmation, mindset-changing, meditation techniques, and more. However, long-time counselor Jerald Forster and yoga and meditation teacher Jennifer Rose have co-authored a book – “Articulating Your Strengths: A Mindful Practice for Developing Your Positive Identity” – that takes a more technical yet highly informative approach.

“Articulating Your Strengths” is an application of positive psychology. And rather than just retelling personal experiences using the method, Forster and Rose describe the mental health science behind the techniques from the very first chapter. Like many self-help books, it discusses the importance of positive thinking but explains how its practice and benefits work in the context of previous psychology theories.

Jerald himself admits that many of the ideas shared in the book have been influenced by his reading of George Kelly’s Personal Construct Psychology, as well as the humanistic models of Abraham Maslow and Carl Rogers. Most of the chapters read like simplified lists that break down each step of the process, along with what practitioners should prepare before they start. Furthermore, they cite plenty of studies to back up their claims to go with the wealth of experience they share in both counseling and higher education.

“Articulating Your Strengths: A Mindful Practice for Developing Your Positive Identity” by co-authors Jerald Forster and Jennifer Rose is a straightforward read for anyone looking for a more structured approach to achieving a positive self-image and an optimistic mindset.

The book will be exhibited at the 2023 L.A. Times Festival of Books by self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at their exhibit at booth #225. Get a copy on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
