Alberto Rodríguez and the Moriarti cooperative work model close the second season of ‘Filmmakers’ Dialogues’

The second season of Filmmakers’ dialogues, organised by Koldo Mitxelena Kulturunea, Z365, the all-year-round festival of the San Sebastián Festival, and Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, will come to a close in April and May with the sessions featuring Alberto Rodríguez and Rafael Cobos, and the three filmmakers from Moriarti Produkzioak: Aitor Arregi, Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga.

One of the longest and most productive partnerships in recent Spanish cinema will be the focus of the session on Thursday the 13th: the one between the director Alberto Rodríguez and the scriptwriter Rafael Cobos, who have worked together on films like 7 vírgenes / 7 Virgins (2005), Grupo 7 / Unit 7 (2012), La isla mínima / Marshland (2014), El hombre de las mil caras / Smoke and Mirrors (2016) or Modelo 77 / Prison 77 (2022), which opened the San Sebastián Festival last year.

To close the second season, on the 26th of May the Basque filmmakers, Aitor Arregi, Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga, will be explaining their cooperative work model in Balenciaga, their first series for a platform, after their experience in films like Loreak / Flowers (2014), Handia (2017) and La trinchera infinita / The Endless Trench (2019), that were all premiered in the Official Selection at the Festival.

The conversation planned for the 4th of May with the director Belén Funes, who premiered her debut film La hija de un ladrón / A Thief’s Daughter (Goya for Best New Director) in the Official Selection at San Sebastián, and the scriptwriter Marçal Cebrián, has been postponed until the next season because they are right in the middle of preparing their second full-length film.

Both sessions will be held at 19:00 in Areto Nagusia at the Koldo MItxelena Kulturunea. Admission is free while seating is available. Filmmakers’ dialogue will also be streamed free-to-air on its web site kmk.gipuzkoakultura.eus.

The course, apart from decentralising the director’s unique gaze, also aims to make the most traditional aspects in the development of a project better known, and as a result, to teach how to watch and interpret cinema critically, in a context whose circumstances are leading it to evolve in all possible directions. Filmmakers like Estibaliz Urresola, Irati Gorostidi, Maider Fernández Iriarte, Albert Serra, Mikel Gurrea, Fernando Franco, Pilar Palomero, Alauda Ruiz de Azua and Carlota Pereda have taken part in its second season.
