A classic Hermès Birkin 35, veau evergrain ébène with gold hardware, circa 2010, sold for over its pre-sale estimate to achieve €11,475, leading Bonhams’ Luisa’s Wardrobe: The Alfieri-Federici Collection of Handbags and Fashion sale yesterday (Wednesday 5 April) at Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr, Paris. The bag had a pre-sale estimate of €6,000-8,000.

The extensive 345-lot sale, which included items from the most coveted designer maisons such as Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Chanel and more, made a total of €356,688 with 90.72% sold by lot and 97.81% sold by value.

Hubert Felbacq, Head of Designer Handbags & Fashion at Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr in Paris, commented: “We are delighted with the outcome of the sale, which is a testament to the exceptional quality and extensiveness of such a desirable collection. With classic luxury items from Hermès leading the sale, as well as more contemporary designer pieces from John Galliano’s Dior and Louis Vuitton, it is no wonder the sale sparked excitement in so many buyers.”

Other sale highlights included high demand for Christian Dior by John Galliano from his tenure as Creative Director with the maison. The top lot was a short grey and sable evening jacket with embroidered satin bands with rhinestones and pearls by John Galliano from Autumn-Winter 2009. The jacket achieved €4,463, four times its pre-sale estimate.

Meg Randell, Bonhams Head of Designer Handbags & Fashion for UK & Europe, concludes: “The Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr, Paris, sale represented an extensive and varied designer collection, personally curated by a collector with an exceptional eye for luxury. A thrilling first half of the two-part sale, it is certain that there is more excitement yet to come in September.”

Other sale highlights include:
• A Christian Dior, Spring-Summer 2017 round ’Tarot’ bag featuring embroidered fabric, motifs, and turquoise detailing by Artistic Director Maria Grazia Chiuri. The limited-edition bag achieved €6,375, three times above its pre-sale estimate.

• A Hermès Kelly II Retourné 32, Evercolour bleu hydra, with gold hardware, circa 2016, achieved €9,563, above its pre-sale estimate.

Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr, Paris will present the Fashion Single Owner Collection Part II on 14 September 2023.
