“At its heart, Jimmy’s story is really a story about faith… about his love for Jesus and His Church and his attempt to put that faith into action…” - Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan

According to the CDC statistics from 2010, 1 in 345 children in the United States have been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. And among those born with that condition, 33.3% had limited to no walking ability.

But for Jimmy Mulzet – author of the book “Facing the Challenge, Beating the Odds: The Jimmy Mulzet Story” – the odds had been worse when he was born, and it did not spell a bright future. In fact, he almost had no future at all as he nearly died before his first birthday. Despite that, he found love and encouragement in his Catholic faith and gradually learned that miracles can happen as long as he was patient.

All of these experiences and more are told in his touching memoir, “Facing the Challenge, Beating the Odds.” The book is slated to be exhibited at the L.A. Times Festival of Books on April 22-23, 2023, at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA.

Diagnosed with cerebral palsy six months after he was born, Jimmy grew up during a time when the science and support systems for his disability were not in his favor. He was never expected to walk, excel in school, or even survive into adulthood without intense care.

Today he is well-known and well-loved by his family and friends for his inspiring story of defying those odds. From gaining the ability to walk, attending school, and running in the New York City Marathon to climbing the stairs of the Empire State and having a personal encounter with St. Pope John Paul II, Jimmy’s faith and determination have helped him through all adversity.

Visitors to the Los Angeles Festival of Books will find “Facing the Challenge, Beating the Odds: The Jimmy Mulzet Story” by Jimmy Mulzet displayed at ReadersMagnet’s exhibit at booth #225. Order a copy today on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
