Shereema Dumas’ Life Journey Through Poetry to Get an Exhibit at the 2023 L.A. Times Festival of Books
The L.A. Times Festival of Books, which will take place on April 22-23, 2023, at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, promises to be a great opportunity for budding poets to show their first published works. And like many of them, Shereema Dumas had written hers with much inspiration taken from her personal life journey. Visitors will get to see what the journey was like in her book “Poetry for the Spirit.”

For more than 10 years, Shereema Dumas has been writing poetry in her mission to inspire others. The art itself has been an exercise of sharing her dream and her life. That’s why at the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2023, her recently published poetry collection, “Poetry for the Spirit,” will be exhibited.
This incredible collection features numerous poems that she had written throughout her life. It touches on a very wide range of topics, feelings, and experiences. Every piece offers a glimpse into a moment that inspired Dumas to express herself in verse.
The experiences range from profound spiritual reflections and melancholic tributes to humorous jabs at daily problems and sweet words about the little joys in life. And while the poems are arranged alphabetically, they each come with a date and can challenge readers to get a clearer picture of their context. It could be a big move to a different town and then a different job. It could be joyfully describing what kind of blessings she had just received.
In all cases, Dumas hopes her work will serve as a new, inspiring example of how poetry can tell one’s life story. It can be quite challenging to share so much of one’s life. Still, she believes herself to be very blessed that it was only natural for her to keep lifting the spirits of others with poetry.
