LibLearnX 2023 Exhibition Features Chet Shupe’s Classic, Rediscovering the Wisdom of Human Nature

The Second edition of Rediscovering the Wisdom of Human Nature was showcased, from January 27-30, 2023, at the largest library event ever held in Louisiana--LibLearnX2023, formerly the Midwinter Meeting of the American Library Association (ALA).

The book was part of The Library Learning Experience (LLX) 2023, created for this New Orleans event by the self-publishing and book marketing firm ReadersMagnet group. Formerly called American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting, the LibLearnX 2023 was the largest library event ever held in Louisiana, having drawn hundreds of attendees from the library sector, academe, and the general public.

Attendees at the LibLearnX participated in various interactive programs, hands-on workshops, award ceremonies, forums, and discussions. Some of the biggest names in the library sector also gave talks. One of the highlights at the event was the LibLearnX Marketplace, where books, as well as technologies and services for libraries, were showcased. Chet Shupe’s book was one of the books displayed at the ReadersMagnet exhibit booth, which was visited by many.

Rediscovering the Wisdom of Human Nature: How Civilization Destroys Happiness, is about the discord between evolution and civilization. Via natural selection, evolution programmed the feelings of all animate beings to serve the life of their species, by seeking pleasure and avoiding pain. As social primates, humans once naturally took pleasure in serving our species, by placing the needs of others above their own, in the context of interdependent relationships. But we moderns now compete for money, to survive. Without interdependent relationships, we have no way to serve our species. Thus, we exist without the pleasure that evolution intended for us.

As a whistle-blower to the world, Chet Shupe speaks with urgency about the need for people to rediscover their connections with their own nature, if we are ever again to experience the contentment of sisterhood and brotherhood that is our natural heritage.

Chet Shupe is an electronics engineer who suffered from severe Attention Deficit Disorder, for much of his life. When he was 43, his condition was finally diagnosed, and he began treatment with Ritalin. Suddenly, life made sense. As a result of that extraordinary experience, he began writing on brain dysfunction to provide a conceptual framework for medically treating the brain.

As a result of that effort—combined with his professional knowledge of system control theory—Shupe’s subject soon changed from brain dysfunction to cultural dysfunction. He realized that the brain cannot find lasting contentment, nor can it produce behavior that serves its species, when functioning in a reality that, emotionally, it does not comprehend.
