“For generations, you came with me down the road a few miles from home. The distant crossroads I had to travel I knew I would not be alone.”

The book “Piece-A-Way Crossroads” by Gloria Gipson Suggs was displayed by self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the 2023 LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience. The event was held on January 27-30, 2023, at New Orleans Earnest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans, Louisiana.

“Piece-A-Way Crossroads” tells how the couple, Peter and Rhea, endured difficult and sensitive situations and issues. Told from the perspective of their very own daughter, Jeannie, readers will follow the story of their family during the difficult, turbulent, and beautiful times from the Great Depression through to the Desegregation.

The book contains short stories and poems describing each family member’s life. In the first part, the book focuses on the life of Jeremiah and Ruth, who had ten children and decided to leave Florence, Alabama, to find a better life in Benton and Marshall County, Mississippi. There, they worked hard to provide for their needs while their adult children lived in clapboard row houses located across the road and down from their homes.

The author imparts important lessons in each story, making readers realize the importance of perseverance and determination. This book is definitely worth the read from start to finish.
