In “Cricket Goes on Vacation”, readers meet Cricket, a good dog who appreciates life despite her shyness around others and her belief that she is “special” due to her special needs. Cricket needs more time, patience, and a particular diet in order to achieve things that other dogs can do easily.

She is constantly anxious and terrified of kids. Cricket is afraid of children, but if they are gentle and persistent, she may eventually warm up to them and allow them to snuggle her.

Author Melissa D. Boyer was moved to write this book to help other dog owners after adopting a dog named Cricket, who was diagnosed with megaesophagus. Melissa wants to show younger people, who may have never seen such kindness and pleasure in the face of suffering, what she saw in Cricket.
