Fritznel Octave’s Masterful Summary of Haitian History Exhibited at the LibLearnX 2023

Education is ever a top priority at the LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience, and this year’s exhibits were full of publications that shared new information on a wide range of academic topics. However, veteran Haitian journalist Fritznel D. Octave accomplished more than that with “Haiti Between Pestilence and Hope: The Progressive Ideals from the Revolution of 1804 Set the Pace.”

Within just eight chapters, Octave provides a clearer summary of the Caribbean nation’s history by including important-yet-lesser-known details that go beyond the disasters and political turmoil that puts the country’s name in global news.

Particularly, his book does the rare job of further detailing the revolution that established the country’s independence, all while giving a more nuanced take on how these events shaped Haiti’s current political and economic atmosphere.
