Hall of Famer Wendell Magee Shares Book of Faith-Inspired Verses at LibLearnX 2023
Wendell E Magee Jr played for both the Philadelphia Phillies and the Detroit Tigers, but what’s little less known is that he’s also a sportsman of faith. His book, “Set the Captives Free,” was recently exhibited at this year’s LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience and is filled with his personal mix of poetry and spiritual reflection.

In the world of Major League Baseball, Wendell E Magee Jr enjoyed plenty of success, first as an outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies and then as a center fielder for the Detroit Tigers. But in his own book, “Set the Captives Free,” Magee shares something far more spiritual. Combining a unique form of Christian poetry embedded with countless Bible verse references, Magee talks about how all the happenings of his life were the fruits of his faith journey.
