Italian State Police and Eni renew agreement on preventing and combating cybercrime

Eni and the Italian State Police have renewed an agreement to prevent and combat cybercrime against information systems and services deemed essential to the country.

The agreement, signed in Rome by Lamberto Giannini, Chief of Police and General Director of Public Security, and Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni, follows the guidelines issued by the Ministry of the Interior to strengthen the prevention of cybercrime through partnerships with operators providing essential services.

The Postal and Communications Police, through the National Cybercrime Centre for the Protection of Critical Infrastructures, is committed to ensuring the integrity and operability of the computer network for the country’s strategic facilities.

Eni is present in 69 countries and carries out activities considered vital for collective needs, and it is a critical infrastructure of national interest. For this reason, it is necessary to ensure the integrity of the information systems underpinning the pursuit of its corporate strategy. Eni has long been engaged in a thorough process of operational digitalisation, aimed at adopting the most modern and efficient processes and using the most powerful computer systems in the world at an industrial level, which the company has had since 2013.

The agreement is an important milestone in the process of building and consolidating effective public-private partnerships. Given the insidious and unpredictable nature of cyber threats, such collaborations are essential to create an effective system to combat cybercrime through information sharing and operational cooperation.
