Dr. Joyce Willard Teal will be Featured in Publishers Weekly’s Magazine Issue This Week

A long-standing witness to any country’s history is its trees. Deeply rooted and subtly interconnected, trees hold a vital role in recollecting what took place, if only they could speak. But then again, what if they actually could tell a tale?

During the height of the Civil Rights era, Dr. Joyce Willard Teal delivers profound imagery that trees are great storytellers. She also subtly crafts a smooth undertone of empowering children to appreciate the existence of trees as they are one of our planet’s most important resources.

In her book, “The Tree That Told the Tale,” she creates tree-folk characters that stand witness to the racial tension that was brewing in Alabama as well as in other parts of the country. When the 16th Street Baptist Church was bombed by a member of the Ku Klux Klan, it was the tree called Tanza along with its parts who saw everything, thus, playing a big role in how the story progresses. Definitely a meaningful children’s book that shouldn’t be missed.

About the Author

Dr. Joyce Willard Teal is an award-winning teacher who has taught for more than 30 years. She graduated from Prairie View A & M University and received a Doctorate in Christian Counseling from Jacksonville Theological Seminary. With her knack for teaching and writing, she began writing professionally in 1995 and has successfully published a number of cherished poems and books, including some adult and non- fiction books.
