San Diego, CA, USA – WEBWIRE

“A story of perseverance and survival of a strong and independent family.”

ReadersMagnet will exhibit the book “Piece-A-Way Crossroads” by Gloria Gipson Suggs at the 2023 LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience on January 27-30, 2023, at New Orleans Earnest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans, Louisiana.

“Piece-A-Way Crossroads” reflects the life of the couple Peter and Rhea and the hardships they faced during the Great Depression and desegregation, as told from the point of view of their daughter, Jeannie.

In the first part of the book, Jeannie explains to readers their childhood ritual called “piece-a-way,” which was performed by four generations of people who were descendants of slaves and Native Americans way back 1930 to 1960.

Jeannie introduces some people, places, and events that her parents encountered and prolifically integrates stories, poetry, and art in the storytelling format. The book transitions from past to present, alternately providing readers a glimpse of what Jeannie’s parents had gone through before, especially during difficult and sensitive times.

The author has her own way of capturing the reader’s attention and interest to dig deeper into her book and follow the lives of a family who survived various obstacles. Readers will also witness how Peter and Rhea were able to raise and educate their children during the era when education was not a popular path.
