The inspiring nonfiction book “The Sounds at River’s Edge”: True Stories of Growing Up on the Intracoastal Waterway by Bobbie J. McLaren will soon be displayed by ReadersMagnet LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience on January 27-30, 2023 at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans, LA.

In a time before fast food, microwave ovens, and home videos, the world presented in “The Sounds at River’s Edge” is one in which excitement was always just around the corner. The activities themselves were more important than the specific locations or amounts of money spent when it came to people’s enjoyment of life.

Being told to “remain in the house” was a severe punishment in an era when going outside to play was the norm for most children. It’s common practice to prohibit television and phone use when children are grounded.

The book’s stories revolve around the bond between a father and his child and the child’s boundless creativity. Although the world moved more slowly, history was being made every day in the form of victories, tragedies, tears, and laughter. By reading this book, adults can experience the world through the eyes of a child.
