The inspiring nonfiction book “The Sounds at River’s Edge”: True Stories of Growing Up on the Intracoastal Waterway by Bobbie J. McLaren will soon be displayed by ReadersMagnet LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience on January 27-30, 2023 at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans, LA.

In a time before fast food, microwave ovens, and home videos, the world presented in “The Sounds at River’s Edge” is one in which excitement was always just around the corner. The activities themselves were more important than the specific locations or amounts of money spent when it came to people’s enjoyment of life.

Being told to “remain in the house” was a severe punishment in an era when going outside to play was the norm for most children. It’s common practice to prohibit television and phone use when children are grounded.

Bobbie J. McLaren was born in South Florida in the 1950s in Northern Palm Beach County. She graduated from Palm Beach Gardens High School, much to the surprise of many, in 1972. She is constantly creating something, whether it is poetry, short stories, or gospel music because she has always felt the need to create.

She is now living in North East Alabama atop Lookout Mountain. She is involved in writing Vacation Bible School programs for her church and working with drama. Learning to paint and sketch, in addition to working full-time, keeps this author occupied. She shares her home with two cats and her life with her family that lives all around her in the Fort Payne area.
