Janis Pardue Hill’s Memoir of Her Father’s Experience as a WWII POW Will Be Displayed at the 2023 LibLearnX

“Telling His Story: Pow #1000” tells the story and experiences of the author’s father as a prisoner of war (POW) during World War II. Her father was one of the soldiers who witnessed and survived the brutality of the Japanese guards on the infamous Bataan Death March, where they shot, beheaded, and buried alive anyone who fell during the march.

This book details this tragic chapter in the history of World War II and the despicable murder and torture of American and Filipino soldiers in Bataan.

Unfortunately, not all history books provide complete details about the infamous Bataan Death March. When a movie about Bataan was produced by Hollywood, they did not mention the deaths of thousands of American patriots on the Death March in the POW camps. Was it because they didn’t have enough information? Lack of reference books? Regardless of the cause, everyone must realize the importance of preserving the heroic and tragic stories for their children and grandchildren.

It is the author’s goal to provide transparent information about the Bataan Death March through her father’s eyes and to celebrate the courage and strength of the extraordinary group of American patriots known as “The Greatest Generation.”

Dr. Janis Pardue Hill is a retired university professor and lifelong educator. She holds a BS in English education, an MA in literature, and a Ph.D. in curriculum theory. She has worked in university and secondary classrooms and as a program coordinator in the Louisiana Department of Education and the Ouachita Parish School System. Dr. Hill retired from Louisiana Tech University.
