“Stormfront: Book One of the Stormsong Trilogy” by Stephen A. Reger Amuses Book Critics

The first book in Stephen A. Reger’s “Stormsong Trilogy” occurs in Central Europe in 1618, at the dawn of the Thirty Years’ War. The story follows two exquisite women who lead polar opposite lives: the affluent and proud Lady Atlantis Vanessa von Stormsong and the poor orphan Šarlatová.

Like most of Europe, the once-proud Holy Roman Empire is now split along religious, political, and economic lines that throw Catholics and Protestants, princes and monarchs, and the wealthy and the impoverished against one another. A conflict unlike anything ever seen in Europe is becoming increasingly inevitable. Lady Atlantis Vanessa von Stormsong and Šarlatová are destined to be involved in the impending fight.

The impoverished Šarlatová is a Protestant thief, while Lady Atlantis Vanessa von Stormsong is the sole child of a wealthy Catholic archduke. Although these two strangers strongly believe in the same God, they will fall into the same trap as they try to find peace in a world ruled by aggressive and influential men. Bookworms describe the book as an enigmatic and captivating amalgam of fantasy and fiction.

“Stormfront’s” powerful, female lead characters did not escape the attention of book critics. An article published in the Blue Ink Review praised the seamless characterization in Stephen Reger’s fantasy book: “These characters are the fuel that powers the narrative. Both are impressively well-developed, emotionally connective, and have very different storylines.”

Jeremiah Rood from Clarion Reviews noted that “Stormfront” is exciting material for those inclined to learn more about the infamous Thirty Years’ War in European history, noting that, “Stormfront is an alternative history novel in which witches and powerful magic influence the tumultuous Thirty Years’ War.”
