LADA E-largus Has Now Entered the Test Cycle


AVTOVAZ announces the start of the LADA e-Largus test cycle. That is the most localised Russian electric vehicle, whose pilot production will start at the LADA Izhevsk plant in late 2023.

On 26 December 2022, the LADA e-Largus electric vehicle prototype presentation was hold in Izhevsk. The model was personally demonstrated to the Head of the Republic of Udmurtia, Alexander Brechalov, by the President of AVTOVAZ, Maxim Sokolov.

The LADA e-Largus will be produced in either a passenger version or a commercial van version. The model will be the most localised Russian electric car. Unlike all the new SKD assembly projects introduced in Russia in recent months, the components share from Russian suppliers will be at least 50% (or 3,600 points) at the time of production start-up.

E-Largus electric vehicle prototypes have now begun a cycle of road and laboratory tests. A permanent magnet synchronous electric motor rated at 110 kW is fitted to passenger and commercial station wagons. The lithium-Ion batteries are arranged in the engine compartment and the area where the fuel tank used to be located, lowering the centre of gravity to stabilise the electric vehicle and fully preserving the useful interior and trunk volume (560 litres for the five-seat version).

The e-Largus instrument panel features a digital combination to monitor all electric vehicle systems, charge level and cruising range, which is at least 400 km with just a driver and 100 kg payload ( using the NEDC methodology). The total load capacity of the vehicle is 430 kg. The powertrain settings provide a top speed of 145 km/h ( limited by the electronics) and also offers dynamic acceleration ( under 10 sec to 100 km/h).

While presenting the e-Largus prototype, Maxim Sokolov, President of AVTOVAZ JSC, highlighted that ``LADA e-Largus is the most localised Russian electric car, unlike any of the projects recently presented by other Russian manufacturers engaged in SKD assembly of foreign models. AVTOVAZ itself and the Russian component-making industry will provide at least 50% of the parts needed already when this vehicle goes into production start. I believe that only such highly localised projects should receive the government support. The new vehicle will enable us to achieve several goals at once. This includes loading the production capacity of the LADA Izhevsk vehicle manufacturing plant, but also the development of Russian engineering competencies and the introduction of a truly Russian electric car. We are planning to produce a pilot batch of e-Largus in Izhevsk as early as 2023.Aleksandr Brechalov, head of Udmurtia, announced: ``During the year we have been working with AVTOVAZ management and the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade to preserve the production. As a result, the company continues to manufacture components for the LADA Vesta and maintains its servicing and supporting functions. And this is where I am very grateful to Maksim Sokolov and Denis Valentinovich Manturov. The launch of the e-Largus is another boost to production progress. We are making the great plans for the facility, in particular to set up an industrial park on the company site. The overall ready-to-use production space is 300,000 square metres. In addition, companies from Udmurtia will also be able to cooperate with AVTOVAZ by supplying spare parts for future electric cars. They already produce a variety of products, beginning with antennas and extending to audio systems and window lifters. In the long run, our aim is to make components for the entire electric transport industry in the future industrial park.

Either he has added that the republic will pay special attention to the development of charging infrastructure in the coming years. Today, more than 140 electric cars are officially registered in Udmurtia. 13 electric charging stations are in use, with at least 40 being planned for the future.
