For the second consecutive year, the Maris Stella Center for Environmental and Cultural Education has hosted the ceremony for the II Usera Solidaria Awards, awards that recognize and value the solidarity and altruistic work carried out by the different social agents in the district. These distinctions are divided into six categories with which it is intended to help encourage and promote solidarity actions between citizens and private and social entities.

In the Social Entity category, the award went to the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center, which cares for minors in vulnerable situations and their families through sports, educational activities and psychosocial support.

In the Business section, Hiper Usera has been distinguished for its commitment to job creation and wealth generation in the district since its creation, more than 60 years ago.

Within the category of Institution, the Colegio San Viator has been awarded for its extraordinary teaching work for 60 years as an educational center in the district, committed to citizen involvement and sports practice, and of recognized prestige in the city.

In the Municipal Public Service category, the award distinguishes the Municipal Housing and Land Company of Madrid and the General Directorate of Housing for more than 41 years of service to the people of Madrid and, especially, in the district, for the rehabilitation of the Maris Stella Church, the construction of the San Fermín Library, its promotion of social housing in the capital and the management of rehabilitation and rental programs, a commitment that has allowed the removal of asbestos from 1,300 homes in Meseta de Orcasitas .

In this year’s new award category, called Commitment to the district, which aims to recognize and value the roots in the district of people, companies and entities that have tried to bear positive results, various awards have been given: to the markets municipal councils of Usera, Jesús del Gran Poder, Usera and Orcasitas, for the essential service and attention they provide to residents and for their commitment in the difficult years of the pandemic; and the Museo del Jamón as a flagship company that, since the 1960s, has generated employment in the district and collaborates actively with social organizations in Usera.

These recognitions were born last year promoted by the Municipal Board of Usera, to highlight the solidarity heritage of the district, which is distinguished by response initiatives and exemplary aid.

The team at the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center in Madrid closes a year of work with a flourish thanks to this recognition of their effort and commitment.
