Bobbie J. McLaren’s Book Was Featured at NYLA 2022 Annual Conference and ReadersMagnet Book Confab

The inspiring non-fiction book “The Sounds at River’s Edge: True Stories of Growing Up on the Intracoastal Waterway” by Bobbie J. McLaren was successfully displayed by ReadersMagnet at the New York Library Association 2022 Annual Conference and Trade Show on November 3–4, 2022, at the Saratoga Springs City Center at 522 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866, and the ReadersMagnet Book Confab on October 28–30, 2022, at 72 Warren St., Tribeca, New York.

“The Sounds at River’s Edge” is about a time before fast food, microwave ovens, and home videos when adventure was as close as the next thought. When it came to having fun, what mattered more than where people went or how much they spent was what they did.

Most kids would rather go outside and play than be punished by being told to “remain in the house.” It’s common practice to prohibit television and phone use when children are grounded.

The book’s stories revolve around the bond between a father and his son, as well as the latter’s boundless creativity. Despite the slower pace of life, history was being made every day, as victories and tragedies, tears and joy, were shared by all. By reading this book, adults can experience the world through the eyes of a young child.

Bobbie J. McLaren was born in South Florida in the 1950s in Northern Palm Beach County. She graduated from Palm Beach Gardens High School, much to the surprise of many, in 1972. She is constantly creating something, whether it is poetry, short stories, or gospel music because she has always felt the need to create.

She is now living in North East Alabama atop Lookout Mountain. She is involved in writing Vacation Bible School programs for her church and working with drama. Learning to paint and sketch, in addition to working full-time, keeps this author occupied. She shares her home with two cats and her life with her family that lives all around her in the Fort Payne area.
