At the age of twenty-five, Eddie W. Sorrell, Sr.’s life was drastically changed. The late Jim Henry Warren baptized him, and from that day, he knew he had a message to tell everyone about the Lord. After five years of working diligently for the Lord, in 1980, Minister (Brother) Sorrell began preaching the gospel. His ministry career led him to minister at the Division Street Church of Christ, Biloxi, MS. Subsequently, in 1986, Brother Sorrell ministered at the North Gulfport Church of Christ in Mississippi, where he started a prison ministry and a local radio program.

Nine years later, Brother Sorrell and his family migrated back to his roots in North East Mississippi, where he ministered at Sunflower Church of Christ in Booneville, MS. There, he maintained a television ministry for seven (7) years, entitled “The Naked Truth.” Brother Sorrell continued his education at the School of Religious Studies in Moss Point, MS.

In 2002, Brother Sorrell returned to the Gulf Coast as the minister of the Helveston Road Church of Christ (formerly Dewey Street Church of Christ) in Hattiesburg, MS. While in the “Hub City,” Brother Sorrell’s congregation sponsored a weekly radio ministry on 92.1 FM and 1580 WORV. He returned to television on Fox 25 and added visitation to convalescent homes in Hattiesburg, MS. Other accomplishments included:

  • Door-Knocking program (Evangelism)
  • Brother Sorrell teamed up with Brother David Jackson and wrote “The 25 Plus Plan,” a guide for congregations to assist in building/growing membership in the Church.
  • During Brother Sorrell’s ministry, he taught and baptized over a thousand souls.

In January 2019, Brother Sorrell moved to Birmingham, Alabama, and now worships at Woodland Park Church of Christ and supports the evangelism ministry. At the moment, he works with Brother David Jackson and travels through the south of the country to carry out their plan for evangelism.

Finally, we note that not only has Brother Sorrell “been on the battlefield field for the Lord,” he is also an Army and Air Force retired veteran and was a business owner. His businesses ranged from owning a skating rink to a convenience store that served excellent meals, and he had various construction skills. You could say, “a jack of many trades.”
His education includes attendance at North East Community College, Mississippi Valley College, and a host of other religious studies institutions.

Brother Sorrell has been happily married to Bertha Warren Sorrell for forty-six years, and they have been blessed with four children, four granddaughters, two great-granddaughters, and two great-grandsons.
