“Tomatoes and Peppers” by Matt Mulligan by ReadersMagnet at the 2022 New York Library Association (NYLA) Annual Conference and Trade Show. The event was held last November 3–4, 2022, at the Saratoga Springs City Center at 522 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, New York.

“Tomatoes and Peppers” is a metaphorical story that investigates the dynamics between kids with varying types of differences and their environment. The main idea of the book is that the way people see and judge kids based on obvious and less obvious differences can be their biggest problem.

Matt Mulligan used his unique viewpoint on childhood to write “Tomatoes and Peppers.” Its author’s intention was to utilize a symbolic story to gauge adults’ level of concern for children in society at large.

Matt knows what it’s like to navigate the world unconventionally after being born at 28 weeks, undergoing close to 30 operations, including 19 neurosurgeries, five of which took place just this past summer, and being diagnosed with learning disabilities at the age of 40.

This book will assist in rewriting the script of helping relationships of all types from a strength-based perspective and act as a bridge of understanding between those who suffer and the world around them, which is Matt’s overarching goal.
